Fremont Chamber of Commerce-Leadership Fremont Class of 2024 is raising $40,000 to help the Afghan Elderly Association (AEA) reinstate the social meal portion of their Healthy Aging Program (HAP). During the pandemic, HAP was put on pause and County funding was diverted to programs providing meal delivery. The program was restarted after the shelter in place orders were lifted but due lack of funding, the social meal service and number who can attend has been limited.
Leadership Fremont is raising funds to help rent a bigger space and accommodate more participants. With the recent fall of Afghanistan, AEA is seeing women who need help to adjust to life in the US. Those who fled in the 80’s are retraumatized by the images and stories coming out of Afghanistan. All of these women need a safe space to ask for help, feel supported, and learn how to live a healthy lifestyle.
Leadership Fremont will be hosting an event on May 16 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Fremont Downtown Event Center to highlight the program and agency, as well as raise funds. Join us to learn more and make a meaningful impact in our community.
