Below are some of the volunteer opportunities available with the AEA. Or, if you have a specific interest or idea for a potential volunteer project, please don’t hesitate to let us know!
Writer: The writer is responsible for meeting with the Afghan Seniors in our program and documenting their life stories. This project will serve to expand our outreach and advocacy efforts and help raise awareness about the lives of our seniors. Qualifications for this position include prior experience in writing, journalism, or communications.
Publicity and Marketing Intern: The Publicity and Marketing Intern is responsible for assisting the AEA with the publicity of our annual Mother's Day Event in May. The intern will help staff create publicity materials. Qualifications for this position include previous marketing and publicity experience
Arts Project Instructor: We would like to find a volunteer skilled in art and teaching to facilitate monthly arts activities with approximately 50-70 senior Afghan women. The art activities will take place on Wednesdays at the Healthy Aging Program and a translator will be provided if necessary.
You! The AEA serves a diverse clientele with a variety of needs and welcomes volunteers with an array of personal and professional skills and experiences. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and ages. If you want to get involved and make a difference, we hope to find an opportunity for you with the AEA.
We rely on a team of dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and skills to support our seniors. Volunteers are vital for the AEA to enhance the wide range of services we provide for our seniors.
Time commitment will depend on the volunteer opportunity and your availability. Regular weekly and one-day volunteer opportunities are both available.
Do you have an internship program or accept college students looking for a field study?
We do not currently have an official college internship program; however, if you are interested in a full or part-time placement with the AEA, please contact our office with any questions and attach a resume and cover letter detailing your work experience, field of study, certification and skills, and your specific interest in working with the AEA.
**Prospective interns/volunteers must have a cultural understanding of the Afghan community as well as fluency in Farsi or Pashtu unless otherwise stated. All internship/volunteer positions are unpaid.
